Mediterranean Cruise – Day 5 and 6 – Cruising day and Stopover in Dubrovnik (Croatia)

Since leaving Santorini on 08/13/2015, the next stopover is Dubrovnik on 08/15/2015.

Thus, the day of 08/14/2015 is a crusing day without stopovers. No fear, you will not be bored, because the boat is a small town that deserves to be discovered.

We arrive in Dubrovnik on 08/15/2015 at 08:00, we have about 4 hours to visit the city. The departure is at 01:00 p.m.

Arrival in Dubrovnik

City: Dubrovnik (Croatia)
Date: 08/15/2015
Arrival: 08:00 a.m.
Departure: 1:00 p.m.

At each stopover of the cruise, COSTA proposes excursions to visit the city or to do an activity. Prices vary from 50€ to 120€ per person. You can always do the tours yourself(sometimes the same tour offered by the company) much cheaper. But, it is necessary to prepare the necessary information before. The internet connection is very expensive on the boat and you will never find information about public transport because the cruise company “pushes” you to pay for its excursions. We did not take any Costa excursion and That is with no regrets.

We arrive at the Dubrovnik cruise port and choose to take the shuttle bus (€6 per person: round trip) to the Old City.

When you arrive at the gates of the old town, try to spot the currency exchange office with the best rate. The currency of Croatia is not the Euro but the Croatian Kuna (kn: HRK). In August 2015, the rates were: 1 € = 7.5 kn
To make the calculation easier for you, always ask « how much Kuna will you get on hand? » before making the change, so you don’t get lost with the commissions.
We changed €27 for 200 kn. That’s enough for us for what we’re going to do there.

We chose to go around the city at the top of its fortifications: « Dubrovnik City Walls ». It is a visit that we strongly recommend. You have 2 access points (see map above). If you finish the tour (between 1 and 2 hours), you enter through one point and exit through the other. Access costs 12 € / person (20 € for a guided tour).

Dubrovnik City Walls

These fortifications are considered one of the most grandiose fortified monuments in Europe.
