Move in New York (by public transport) :
For our travel in New York:
– We exclusively took the subway in Manhattan
– Between Manhattan and New Jersey, we mainly took the PATH trains. we took the 119 bus twice

Subway :
There are 36 subway lines in New York that are divided by color.
The same colors have the same route over a large part of Manhattan but are divided into sections outside (Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Harlem).

There is one thing to be careful about, there are 2 types of subway (Local and Express)
Local: The subway stops at all stations. It can be very slow if you travel a long distance
Express: The subway does not stop at all stations. Of course the stations served are indicated.
The price of the trip is $2.90
The unlimited week pass is $34
You can buy tickets:
– on an automatic terminal
– Using contactless payment or your Smartphone with the OMNY application

PATH :
Jersey City is separated from New York by the Hudson River. The PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) manages underground train transport between the 2 cities. A trip costs $2.75

There are 4 lines on weekdays (Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 23:00). Our accommodation being not far from the Journal Square station, we took the red and yellow lines depending on our destination in New York.

PATH : New York – New Jersey

Between 23:00 and 06:00, on weekends and holidays, the service is reduced:

PATH : New York – New Jersey

Bus N° 119
To get back to our accommodation in New Jersey, we sometimes took the bus No.119. The advantage of this means of transport is to avoid the underground journey in order to enjoy the view, and also, with this bus, we arrive at 10 minutes walk from our accommodation. The bus leaves from the station « Port Authority Bus Terminal«

Travel to and from JFK airport :
The Air Train is the easiest and fastest way to go from the airport to a subway line and vice versa. The price of the trip is $ 8.50
We took it in both directions by making a connection at the Jamaica station with the E line

Air Train, JFK, New York

Our child being less than 2 years old during this trip, he did not pay for a seat on the plane but a flat rate for airport taxes.
Our Budget for 2 adults and a baby under 2 years old was €3,026 for 9 days:

We changed a few euros into dollars.
Most of the expenses were made by credit card without problem

For Europeans, an ESTA form to be completed in advance is required.
For us, Tunisians, a Visa is required.
We completed the procedures in 2023 at the United States Embassy in Paris. The Visa granted has a duration of 10 years

Phone plan :
In order to have an internet connection, we opted for an e-Sim. This is a non-physical Sim card. It is installed directly on the phone via a code.
We chose the “Global YO” app which offers an e-Sim containing 10 GB for $9
