Today, we wake up very early to pick up a large car rented for the day. It is a large 8-seater Van.

At 07:00 we leave for Washington. We have chosen to visit the capital of the United States for the day. The journey lasts 4 hours

On the way, we pass not far from Philadelphia and Baltimore.

We arrive in Washington and find a paid parking space at “Independence Ave SW” (38°53’15.2″N 77°01’03.4″W).
The must-see area of Washington can be done on foot in half a day. That’s good, the weather is very nice.

We start by going to see the Capitol
The United States Capitol is the seat of the Congress (legislative branch) of the United States.

This is the building that was stormed by supporters of Donald Trump, defeated in the American presidential elections in 2021

Then, we go along the large park (Constitution Gardens) to the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

It is a huge beautiful park. You will certainly see squirrels there

The Washington Monument is a 169-meter-high obelisk in honor of George Washington, the first president of the United States. Before being beaten by the Eiffel Tower in 1889, it was the tallest monument in the world

To see the White House, it is better to go to the other side at the « Lafayette Square » garden
We choose to pick up the car and go there with it. We manage to park at « Connecticut Ave NW » (38°54’02.8″N 77°02’17.7″W) to see the White House

We finish our tour in Washington and head back to New Jersey.

We stop at an Outlet located 20 km from Philadelphia: Gloucester Premium Outlets (39°47’04.7″N 75°03’09.0″W). If you are interested, there may be good deals on some brands of clothes, handbags and shoes in outlets in the United States

We return the rental car and return to our Airbnb in New Jersey to rest after a long day.
