Rabat was our arrival and departure city in Morocco. We spent 2 separate nights there. One night on arrival, and one night before departure. We arrive at Rabat-Salé airport from Charleroi:
Brussels-Charleroi (CRL) – Rabat-Salé (RBA)
Date: March 04th, 2023 from 11:25 to 14:35
Company: Ryanair
Price for 2 people with a 9-month-old baby and 2 pieces of luggage: €170

Everything is perfect: clean airport, agents offering help, all transport information is available: Bus prices and schedules. Taxi fares by destination.

To leave the airport, we choose to take the bus to Rabat downtown. The bus drops you off at the city center train station after 15 minutes. It takes 10 minutes more to Rabat Agdal train station. The trip costs 25 MAD (2.5 €) per person.

We get off at Rabat Agdal train station to pick up our rental car. The company we rented the car from has an office at the airport, but it costs more to rent from the airport. In addition, by picking up the car next to the train station, we can return it to the same place with no extra fees. This is perfect for taking the train.

Rabat is the capital of Morocco, and therefore the city of the king’s main residence.
Since the bus ride, we see the impeccable cleanliness of the city. Rabat is a magnificent city and we notice it since the moment we arrive.
We arrive at Rabat Agdal train station and pick up our rental car
Company: United Car Rental (Agency: Rabat – Agdal-Ryad)
Rental duration: 4 days

We arrive near our first accommodation which is located in the medina of Rabat. The area is completely pedestrianized and we had to park in one of the large adjacent streets.
While looking for a parking place, we take the opportunity to have a drive and see the Marina and El Chellah (It is a necropolis that has hosts the “Jazz au Chellah1” festival since 2005. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site)

We finally find a parking place on Laalou Avenue (34°01’41.5″N 6°50’22.9″W). We arrive at our first accommodation in Rabat:

It is a splendid Riad with authentic architecture. It is very clean. The staff is very helpful. It is a magnificent accommodation

For the evening, we leave the car parked and go out for a little tour in the medina of Rabat. The hotel is located a few steps from Avenue Mohamed V. This is the main street of the Medina

We return to our Riad for the night, Tomorrow we will go to Tangier
We wake up quietly and have a nice breakfast at our Riad:

We go out for a walk, we go down Avenue Mohamed V. The city wakes up slowly.

We arrive at the central market of Rabat. It is a lively market.

On the other side of the market, is the tram stop « Medina Rabat » and the « Place Bab El Had« . At this time of the morning, the place is more lively than the Medina.

We return to the Medina and continue to the Souk of Rabat. The morning stroll in this souk is magnificent.

You can taste a sugar cane juice there. It is delicious.

We continue our tour to admire the colorful streets of the Medina

Do not miss a passage in the mythical street of the Consuls. It is one of the oldest streets of the capital. The street is classified as a historical monument

We return to our Riad to collect our luggage and go to the car to leave for Tangier.
Before leaving, we make a quick stop by car to see the Hassan Tower and the Mohamed V Mausoleum.

We leave Rabat towards Tangier for a 3-hour and 250 km journey

We will return to spend one last night in Rabat before our departure from Morocco.
We arrive in Rabat this time by train from Marrakech. We take a taxi to the gates of the Medina to get closer to our hotel. Our second accommodation is closer to the Kasbah of the Oudayas than the first. But it is still located in the pedestrian zone of the Medina.
