We will spend 4 nights in Marrakech. We will stay in 2 accommodations (Riad Assala and Riad L’Arganier), 2 nights in each.

Marrakech – Riad Assala and Riad L’Arganier

To go to our first accommodation (Riad Assala), we take a taxi from Marrakech train station. Our taxi drops us off 250m from the Riad (31°38’02.0″N 7°59’27.9″W). The rest of the way is closed to cars.

Marrakech to Riad Assala

We are harassed by luggage carriers. Seeing us get out of the taxi with luggage and stroller, a man loads our luggage into a small cart and asks us the name of the Riad. We let him do it, he drops our luggage at the door of our accommodation. And there, he asks us for €20 for these 5 minutes (while it is completely doable by ourselves). We give him the equivalent of €5 to cut short the discussion. Little tip: always agree on the price of the service in advance and avoid « No, it’s not a problem, you will give me what you want »

We are welcomed at our Riad.

Riad Assala, Marrakech

Our Riad is located at the beginning of the Medina of Marrakech, we take advantage of the evening to take a tour. The Medina is impressive in size and colors:

For dinner, we choose the restaurant « El Mida« . You can sit in the Rooftop with a beautiful view of the Medina. The dishes are very good. We recommend this restaurant for the setting and the cuisine.

We wake up with a good breakfast served in our Riad

Riad Assala, Marrakech

We leave the Riad to go and discover the « Medersa Ben Youssef« .

« Medersa » means school in Arabic. The Ben Youssef medersa is a Koranic school. It is one of the witnesses of the richness of Saadian architecture (The Saadians or Zaydanides are a dynasty of Arab origin who reigned over Morocco from 1549 to 1659, and whose capital was Marrakech).
This is a beautiful school that is definitely worth a visit. The architecture and decorations are impressive.

We continue our tour in the Medina of Marrakech. It is a huge open-air souk with lots of colors, spices, crafts …

You can find leather factories there:

The Jemaa el-Fna square is the most famous square in Marrakech. It is a place that is always lively, especially at night. We continue our tour to the Koutoubia Mosque. This is the largest Mosque in the city of Marrakech.

We return to Jemaa el-Fna Square in the evening to discover it in full swing, between crafts, snakes and monkeys. The square is huge and full of people.

This is our day of changing Riads. When I wake up, I choose to take the luggage on foot to the Riad L’Arganier before returning to the Riad Assala for breakfast. This allows us to avoid the solicitations of the luggage carriers.
