Egypt Day 9 : Abu Simbel & Aswan (Nubian Village)

We wake up early enough to be at the opening (06:00) at the temples of Abu Simbel.
We arrive 5 minutes before the ticket office opens, and surprise, there are already people waiting. We should have taken our entrance tickets the day before to avoid the wait.

Waiting for the temples of Abu Simbel opening

The doors open at 06:00.

Temple of Abu Simbel, Price

My wife is still sick, we choose again the round trip solution by Golf car (20 EGP per person)

Towards the temples of Abu Simbel

We arrive in time to admire the temples under the first rays of sun. It is even more beautiful.

We revisit the 2 temples and rediscover the beauty of the sculptures, representations and architecture. We find it hard to believe that the temple was completely cut up and moved.

At the end of the visit, we return to our hotel for breakfast.

As usual, he is on time.
We loved Abu Simbel (despite the heath inconvience), its temples and especially its inhabitants

This time, in Aswan, we chose to stay in the Nubian village.
The Nubian village, also called « Gharb Soheil » is a colorful traditional village. Nubian houses are richly colored and it is visible upon arrival
The village is a little further from the city center of Aswan compared to the elephantine island

We noted an address in the Nubian village, not far from our accommodation: Ana Kato.
It is a Guest House offering a beautiful view and « Instagrammable » photo corners

We settle down on the banks of the Nile with a magnificent view.

Our meal arrives with an funny presentation. The dishes are presented on a pretty rotating and colorful Nubian tray. The dishes are good, anyway, with a view like that, everything is magnified

The sunset is in an hour. We hurry to find a sailing felucca to take a one-hour tour on the Nile. We find a felucca for 500 EGP (10 €). Let’s go to admire the sunset from the Nile with the Nubian village in the background.

On the way back from this magnificent cruise, we continue our tour on foot to discover the heart of the Nubian village

Tour in the Nubian village

The village is lively, colorful and full of life. But it is very touristy and this is evident by the number of souvenir shops and tourists walking in the streets.
We do not regret our choice to spend 1 night here. But we did well to spend the first 2 nights in Aswan on the elephantine island that we find more authentic.

Aswan, the Nubian Village

We end our evening on the terrace of the Guest House « Kato Waidi Nubian House » to drink fresh karkadés. It is the same hibiscus infusion, but in a frappé version.
