After breakfast at our hotel, we leave for the Egyptian Museum. Another positive point of our accommodation. It is located 400 meters from the museum.

The normal price for the Egyptian Museum is 550 EGP (11 €) against 30 EGP (0.6 €) for Arabs. We are really happy to take advantage of these reduced rates.

From the entrance, the museum is splendid.

There is already a crowd inside. The museum is on 2 floors.

It has more than 160,000 objects grouped into collections

We chose to do the visit without a guide. We certainly missed anecdotes and explanations. But we tried to read some informations on the internet beforehand.
In the museum, on the ground floor, you can find the Statuette of Khufu (Cheops). This small statuette of 7.5 cm is of great importance. It is the only known three-dimensional representation of Cheops, the builder of the great pyramid at Giza.

In Cairo, the best place to see mummies is the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC). However, on the second floor of the Egyptian Museum, you can see some of them

You can also admire the Sphinx lying next to the stairs leading to the second floor

When you say Pharaoh, you necessarily say Tutankhamun. He is the Super Star of the pharaohs.
Unlike pharaohs like Ramses II, his reign was neither long nor glorious. He owes his fame to the intact treasure found in his tomb by Howard Carter in 1922. His fame increased after the legend of the pharaoh’s curse.
Tutankhamun’s treasure is in the Egyptian Museum, starting at the entrance to the museum with his Ceremonial Chair

As well as his throne. The size of the chairs testifies to the physical condition of the pharaoh who died young (18 years old) and according to the analysis of his mummy, suffering from an illness that required him to use a cane to move around.

On the second floor, there are 3 rooms, each housing the treasures of a pharaoh.
Photography is prohibited in these rooms, even with a mobile phone.
Among these rooms is the one that contains the treasure of Tutankhamun, recognizable from the queue at its entrance.

You are not ready!!! It is impressive.
No superlative can describe the contents of the room.
You will find his famous golden funeral mask as well as his sarcophagi and a few dozen treasures.
This room is the centerpiece of the museum and is unmissable.
We finish our visit at the museum and return to our hotel, passing by some legendary addresses. Such as the Cine Radio. a famous restaurant, cultural center and exhibition space (30°02’55.7″N 31°14’21.4″E)

We also pass by the famous El Abd pastry shop (30°02’58.6″N 31°14’23.7″E). It is a famous place to taste or buy Egyptian sweets.

We return to our hotel to collect our luggage and say goodbye to all the staff at Champollion Hostel who were friendly and helpful. Even our 2-year-old child loved playing with them.

It is an apartment in a recent building shared between homes and offices.
Zamalek is a chic neighborhood that houses beautiful villas and most of the embassies in Cairo.
After a short rest, we get out for a walking tour to discover the island, because yes, Zamalek is an island surrounded by the waters of the Nile

We discover the lively life of this neighborhood. The population is mainly young and trendy, but the horns and traffic are still there.

We end the evening at the café/restaurant of the hotel « Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino » . The café is called « Garden Promenade Café » . It is a luxurious setting where Egyptian families, youth and foreigners mix. You can eat there, smoke a shisha, drink a coffee or a cocktail. We love the place.
