Today, we have a reservation for breakfast at « Khufu’s restaurant ».
It is a chic restaurant with a beautiful view of the pyramids.
You have to book 2 to 3 weeks in advance via https://khufus.com/reservations/
It is located inside the site 25 minutes from the ticket office. It is possible to go there on foot.
We preferred to go by taxi. We found one for 200 EGP.
In addition to paying your entrance to the pyramids site, the taxi ride, you need to pay the entrance fee for the taxi driver and his car (100 EGP)
You need to ask the taxi driver to take you via the entrance located next to the Mena House.

We arrive at the restaurant and it seems a magnificent place.

The view on the pyramids is wonderful. It is a little less impressive than the view from the 9 pyramids lounge, but it is still an extraordinary landscape that is offered to us.

We chose the “KHUFU’S BREAKFAST PLATTER” and it is a treat:

We loved the experience. The view is magnificent. The food is really great. The staff is very attentive. Hassan Mustapha, tha waiter, is a charming, funny and adorable gentleman.
We walk until the Sphinx. In this way, it is a slope that goes down, quite easy to do

After having rejected multiple solicitations from the sellers, and admired the pyramids, we arrive at the Sphinx

We take advantage of this tour to say goodbye to the Sphinx and the pyramids.

We return to the hotel to collect our luggage. Direction Cairo
For the taxi, all our requests via Uber / Indrive have not been answered.
A taxi stops at our level and agrees to take us for 200 EGP.
We accept, and honestly, no regrets.
The man is incredible. He is kind, funny. He explains to us that he worked in archaeological excavations. He tells us lots of anecdotes about Egypt.
Chatting with taxi drivers in Egypt is an experience that is an integral part of the trip.

Cairo is 30 minutes away from the Pyramids of Giza. We pass by the October 6 Bridge, which allows us to see the Cairo Tower
It is a 187 meter tower that offers a high view of Cairo. We did not have the opportunity to climb it. Maybe another time.

We arrive at our accommodation.

It is a Guest House in an authentic and well-maintained Cairo building. At the elevator, we are already immersed in the atmosphere.
The hotel is clean, the staff is super nice and welcoming.
The hotel has a common area with a well-equipped kitchen. You will find fruit, coffee and tea at will.
Everything is designed to make you feel at home.
We have rarely seen such a service.

We had heard a lot about Koshary. It is the most famous dish of popular Egyptian cuisine.
It is a mixture of several starches: rice, pasta and lentils. Chickpeas and onions are added. It is eaten with tomato sauce and vinegar.
It turns out that the most famous address of Koshary is at 300 meters from our hotel: « Koshary Abou Tarek«

With its colorful blue and red signs, and its multiple floors, you can’t miss it.

Admire the show and the speed of the preparation of Koshary

You can order takeaway or eat in. There is not much choice, but anyway we come here for the Koshary.
The service is fast.
You have the choice between several sizes of Koshary (between 35 EGP and 170 EGP)
The one of 50 EGP (1 €) is a good quantity for 1 person

After a short break at our hotel, we find a taxi via the Careem application for 100 EGP (2 €), to go to Khan-Al-Khalili

We are faced to the legendary traffic of Cairo. Our taxi driver is not even annoyed. He explains to us that the surroundings of Khan-Al-Khalili are always crowded

Our taxi drops us off next to the Al-Azhar Mosque and explains to us that there is an underground pedestrian passage allowing us to cross the street to the Khan-Al-Khalili bazaar

This is THE legendary souk of Cairo. It is perfectly located in the heart of Islamic Cairo. It is an open-air market with beautiful oriental decoration. You will find carpets, souvenirs, lanterns…

You can also find there legendary meeting places, such as the Um Kalthoum café, in the image of the Egyptian diva.

We stroll through the magnificent souk, before taking the famous and beautiful street « Al Moez Ldin Allah Al Fatmi« , or just « Al Moez » street for friends 🙂
The street leads to a magnificent gate « Bab Al Futuh«

And there, we find again the frenzy of Cairo traffic

We return to the hotel passing by a fruit juice place (Sindbad, located on Talaat Harb Square: 30°02’51.6″N 31°14’18.4″E) to try the Fakhfakhina: It is a fruit salad mixed with a smoothie. A treat.
